NAGOYA ROBOTIC WHALE

Designed, built and programmed around motion studies of live Orca whales, this robotic whale is used in conjunction with holographic effects to produce an informative and engaging exhibit at Japan's Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium, raising people’s understanding of Orca whales and the need to preserve their habitats and lifestyle.

The infrastructure and joint system are constructed for maximum realism and durability, and the whale’s skin is a Mannetron engineered high strength silicone stretched over a low-friction substructure, allowing for flexibility while still maintaining shape and tensile strength.
